Paul Woodmansee: Battle blades help improve the AG defection for objects (like missiles and asteroids) coming in from directions other than straight ahead. But their primary help is to reduce damage effects. When a missile hits a battle blade (or buckey wire strung between battle blades) it vaporizes (and so does the area hit) so that the missile may no longer maneuver. Then the plasma vapor can be deflected by the AG field so that it either misses the hull, or strikes a glancing blow off of the sides (missing critical system spaces and hitting less critical systems such as crew quarters which are empty at the time of battle because everyone is a general quarters - hopfully). Unfortunately the speed of the plasma and the short distance make much deflection difficult, and if the momentum of the missile was carrying it directly towards the center of the ship then the missile will hit the central hull and very possibly do more damage than just a glancing blow.
Kelly Starks: As to the battle blades. Given everyone is firing smart weapons (the kinetic missiles are self steering?) they’d all steer around the "battle blades". Statistically, given the tiny surface area of the blades vs the ship, your odds of catching anything unless you can pull (or bait) them toward the blades is pretty bad.
Paul Woodmansee: There's too little time to steer around them in the 10^-6 second of flight left, and the wires are too small to see. However I agree that the odds of them hitting a battle blade is small. But, if you string a fine web of bucky wire between them (simgle monofilaments, too small to see) then the odds increase dramatically – so that’s what they do.
Kelly Starks: Even if the blades did catch a incoming hit, at 80-90% of lightspeed, the debris should still be moving toward the ship pretty fast to stop with the AG fields. Hey, if the AG can stop the kinetic energy of the incoming KE missiles. You don't need the blades, nor would the missiles work. Effectivly, the AG fields would shove off the incoming missiles, and could certainly overcome the missile drive motors?
Paul Woodmansee: After the missile hits the blades (or the bucky wires) the AG field can sometimes divert the plasma stream (from the vaporized missile) so that it doesn't hit the ship. It isn't strong enough to stop it or overcome the missile’s momentum, and it sure can’t overcome the missile if it is still thrusting. The AG field does try to deflect the incoming missile too (just as it would a micrometeorite) but the missile re-targets and just keeps coming straight in. The AG deflection field gets stronger the closer you are to the ship.
So, in summary; the bucky wires between battle blades take out the missile as an intelligent thrusting device then the AG fields can try to divert the debris a bit at the last nano fractions of a second. The missile still has a good chance of still hitting the ship, because there isn’t enough time to act against the 80% light speed debris, but might not hit a central key area of the ship.
kann es sein das die schiffe der Heritage Klasse z.B. die Lancer's Hope und die mila eine art richtige kampf version der Heritage Klasse sind.weil sie so anders aussehen
